Dr. Samuel L. Sharmat, MD, President of Sharmat Psychiatric Group, is a board certified psychiatrist well known for his abilities as a psychiatric diagnostician, treatment planner, and addictionologist. His intensive evaluation and diagnostic approach has been demonstrated to result in better outcomes and an improved sense of well-being for patients. Dr. Sharmat was the recipient of the 2016 Caron Medical Professional Award and sits on the Executive Council of the New York County Psychiatric Society. Additionally, he serves as the consulting psychiatrist for Breathe Life Healing Center, Koved Care Management and PURE Recovery and is the collaborating psychiatrist for many New York City mental health professionals. Dr. Sharmat is well versed in complementary and alternative treatments and always takes the least invasive approach possible.
Amanda Lefkowitz, PMHNP-BC, MA, is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with experience diagnosing, assessing, and providing inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. Ms. Lefkowitz’s specialty lies in the areas of trauma, stress, and caregiver strain. She utilizes a holistic and culturally sensitive approach to medication management and is trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, drawing from different modalities such as mindfulness and CBT to customize treatment. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies at Columbia University where she also completed her Masters degree as a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Additionally, she holds a Masters degree in Stress, Crisis and Trauma Studies from Tel Aviv University and received her BA from Boston University.
