Dr. Samuel L. Sharmat, MD, President of Sharmat Psychiatric Group, is a board certified psychiatrist well known for his abilities as a psychiatric diagnostician, treatment planner, and addictionologist. His intensive evaluation and diagnostic approach has been demonstrated to result in better outcomes and an improved sense of well-being for patients. Dr. Sharmat was the recipient of the 2016 Caron Medical Professional Award and sits on the Executive Council of the New York County Psychiatric Society. Additionally, he serves as the consulting psychiatrist for Breathe Life Healing Center, Koved Care Management and PURE Recovery and is the collaborating psychiatrist for many New York City mental health professionals. Dr. Sharmat is well versed in complementary and alternative treatments and always takes the least invasive approach possible.
Dr. Tina Nguyen graduated college from Temple University at the early age of 18 and obtained her medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. She is currently completing a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Dr. Nguyen is on faculty at Mount Sinai Beth Israel where she mentors psychiatry residents and evaluates patients with psychiatric emergencies in the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). She believes in treating her patients as individuals who are active participants and collaborators in their own treatment planning. Dr. Nguyen has a particular interest in transitional aged youths (up to age 35) and is dedicated to helping patients achieve stability in their lives so that they can enjoy a positive and fulfilling lifestyle.
Mary Gray has been a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for 12 years, with expertise in diagnosing and treating adult patients’ mental health concerns, including addiction. She joined Sharmat Psychiatric Group in early 2017 to provide specialized and personalized care for patients under the supervision of Dr. Sharmat. Ms. Gray gained her first Nursing degree from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. After years of psychiatric nursing experience in Edinburgh and in New York, she received her Masters degree, specializing in psychiatric and mental health from New York University. Ms. Gray offers a holistic approach and spends time educating her patients, giving them personalized choices, therapeutic alliance and emotional support.
